Euphorbia lactea ‘Cristata’

At the OC Fair this year, we introduced a new plant into our selection. It has a ruffled crested top and it sits on a spiny cactus-like stick. It’s actually not a cactus at all as you may have been told, but a succulent. The latin name is Euphorbia lactea ‘Cristata’ which may be found under a variety of common names including Brain Plant, Alabaster Swirl, and Elkhorn. This particular plant is grafted onto another (rootstock), more than likely Euphorbia neriifoli.

Cultural Care

The cultural requirements of Euphorbia lactea ‘Cristata’ are similar to Plumerias. Euphorbias like warm weather, lots of sunlight, and require little water. They actively grow during the warmer months, usually from late spring through summer. They prefer an area where they can get bright sunlight, but may require filtered light in the hottest areas. Let the soil dry between waterings and no water is required during the winter months. At the most maybe one winter watering. When you do water, give it a good soaking. A porous, well draining soil is required. Since this is a grafted plant, remove any branches coming from the rootstock as they will rob the top part of the plant (scion) of nutrients and energy. Protect from frost.

21st Annual Spring Garden Show

Myuhka’s Plumerias will be attending the 21st Annual Spring Garden Show this year at South Coast Plaza. The event will be held at the Crate and Barrel/Macy’s Home Store Wing beginning on Thursday April 22nd through Sunday April 25th. This is a great show for plant lovers. There will be over 75 vendors offering a wide variety of plants and garden accessories. We’ll be located on the second level at booth 2-17 (click here to see site plan) across from Chico’s. We’ll have plenty of plumeria cuttings, rooted plants, and fertilizer on hand. We hope to see you there, come on down and check us out!

Los Angeles Fair Details

We’re at the Los Angeles County Fair daily through October 4th, come down and check us out. The Los Angeles County Fair is located at the Fairplex in Pomona. You can find us in Building 4 at booth 4038. The closest gates to our location are the Red and Green gates (click here to see a map). We have the widest selection of Plumerias at the best prices so make sure you’re buying from Myuhka’s! The fair is open Wednesday through Sunday and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Fair hours vary so visit their website for further details. Admission prices for adults (13 years and older) are $12 on weekdays and $17 on weekends. Parking starts at $10. There’s plenty to do including rides, concerts, shopping, and shows. But the fair is most famous for the food! There’s plenty of fried delicacies to indulge in! 9th Annual Tiki Beach Festival

Myuhka’s Plumerias will be exhibiting at the 9th Annual Tiki Beach Festival on August 22nd and 23rd. It will be a fun night of hula dancing, Polynesian activities, and great food. The Tiki Fest takes place at Alfredo’s Beach Club in the Belmont Shores area of Long Beach. This a FREE event! Come down and have a cocktail on the beach. We’ll have a good selection of Plumerias and plenty of fertilizer. We’ll also have some Ti Leaf plants, Tuberose, and Pineapple Lilies. The event is open sunrise to sundown on both days.
